My 1st drum launched March 11, 2010
Thanks for the opportunity to share with the drum community about Beat Boogie Quality Custom Drums! I love drums every since I 1st heard Sandy Nelson’s “Let There Be Drums”, around 1963 I received my 1st snare drum which was held together with springs, being one of ten living in a house on the south-side of Chicago taught me the persistence to stick with it! This was just prior to the British Invasion, there was a group of musicians that would get together and jam in a garage near our house & the drummer had a maestro snare & high hat – they played Americana type songs, the guitar player/drummer (Cedric Carlson) showed me a shuffle beat & roll it was like throwing gas on a fire. Gene Krupa & Buddy Rich were a big influence. That maestro snare became my “next level” drum for about $7.50 cents. Soon the 1st wave of classic rock landed on American soil, the Beatles, Stones, Dave Clark Five, Zombies, Them and the great bands that were popping up at a furious rate, anyways my next snare was a jump to a silver sparkle Ludwig, soon a red sparkle Kingston drum-set, it was The Who, Cream, Jimi, The Doors, Big Brother – just non-stop great music! Then a Ludwig kit & set of Premiers. I played in a few rock bands in the later 60’s and began working with original rock bands in the 70’s -80’s – brass ring was nowhere to be found! Later I worked for a gear manufacturer in Chicago and became a product manager for gear line that I sold through distributors. I enjoyed the challenge of seeing the production of parts to the packaging and shipping the cold calls and selling to a bigger & bigger distributor base. I’ve taken things I’ve learned along the way and decided to put my efforts in the Beat Boogie Drum line.
What makes your company unique?
With my own funding – on a shoe string, I wanted to offer an affordable primary or alternate snare drum that has bling & pop and began using manufactured components – wood, steel with different wraps, wood veneers, hoops & brought back the internal mute that comes with most snares. I’ve taken a similar approach to the drums sets I build and add some Beat Boogie bling.
Snares 150 & up, sets 800 & up.
What is the average wait time to get a 4-5 piece drum set built?
Where does your inspiration come from?
sometimes late a night
Do you endorse any drummers? If so, who?
Gabriel Anthony, Mike Akia, MartyMardirosian, Phil Ehart (snare) Rod Morganstein (snare)
Is there anything else you would like to add about your company?
What kind of drummers are you selling to?
From young to older drummers that play a variety of styles. The look on their face when they have a connection with a BBQC drum is price-less to me.
